Purely: Learn - Acai

Acai Berries from the Acai Palm in the Amazon rainforest, Brazil.

Acai Berry is a small, purple berry of the Acai palm, a tree which normally grows in the flood lands and swampy areas of the Brazilian Amazon region. Pronounced ‘ah-sigh-ee’, this darling of the superfood scene makes a great basic dietary supplement for almost anyone. Harvested twice a year, these black glittering berries are a treasure of nutrients embodying a wealth of minerals.

Two predominant species of acai exist: Euterpe Oleracea and Euterpe Precatoria. Most of the acai readily available on the market is produced from oleracea variety. Our acai belongs to a more unique botanical variety - Euterpe Precatoria, offering almost twice higher polyphenolic contents and ORAC values.

The Production

Originally a wild plant, the Acai palm is now cultivated and harvested in the Amazon rainforest on the Brazil-Bolivia border. Our Acai Berry is picked by hand from the topmost branches of the tree by farmers such as the indigenous community of Porvenir.

Our acai is produced by using innovative freeze-drying technology. This technology captures the essence of the acai fruit – the only part that has been removed is the water. This approach minimises the loss of functionality and preserves the nutrients from fruit to finished product.
